PROJECT:  Design of railway bridges in linen Thessaloniki - Alexandroupolis at Strymon River

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
 
The project consists of the following bridges:
  1. Strymon River Bridge,  total length of 360.6m, curve in plan R1400m. Full design and support of the construction:
The bridge consists of 11 typical simple span openings 30.6m each and 2, at abutment ends, 12.0m each i.e. 12.0 +11 x30.6 +12.0 = 360.6m. The openings of 30.6m consisting of precast prestressed beams and cast-in situ deck. Deck width of 8.30 m and 2.00 m total height (structural). Bearing of spans at piers and abutments is via movable and fixed Pot bearings. End spans are prestressed cast in situ concrete slabs, structural height 0.75m
Piers are made ​​of reinforced concrete with one column with circular cross section, 2.20m dia., founded on bored piles with a diameter of 1.20m.
  1. Bridge of the old riverbed, total length 61.2. Full design and support of the construction.
The bridge consists of 2 standard simple span openings 30.6m each, the rest follows the same logic as that of the main river bed.
  1. Bridge crossing an irrigation ditch, total length of 26.17 +14.45 = 40.62m, curve in plan R1400m. Preliminary design of bridge and final design of deck.
The longer span is like the typical one of main river bed, structural height 2.00 m. The shorter span is cast in situ prestressed slab structural height 0.75m. Whole body piers, shallow foundation.
  1. Final design of small bridges.
    • Concrete portal frame on piles, two spans, total length ~ 18.5m, skew angle 60deg. Creek crossing.
    • Concrete portal frame on shallow foundation, one span, total length ~ 16.5m, skew angle 50deg. Road under crossing.
The project has been completed and the line is in operation.
