PROJECT:  Complex of steel footbridges ATHENS 2004 at Hellinikon old airport

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
 
Full design of steel footbridges with total length of main structure 101.5m and deck width 4.80m. Main structure consists of the sea side stairway, 24.1m long, the old airport side stairway 17.2m long and 60.2m long Poseidon Avenue overpass, namely: L=24.1+60.2+17.2=101.5m. The overpass consists of a central indeterminate framed lattice girder, from hollow sections, in the form of an arch. Main piers are R.C. single cell boxed of cross section dimensions 3x4m.
To the piers, in parallel to the stairways, are spanning two ramps, for disabled access, having very closed curves in plan, deck width 3.0m and total length of 158.5m (seaside) and 132.4m (old airport side). Ramps are frames, with typical spans of 11.5m, with one main girder formed by one steel tube 457mm dia. and single columns as piers, from the same tube, connected to the girders.
The general layout of the project in plan and it's outer contour in view proposed by the architectural firm and the preliminary layout of the main frame had been suggested by the structural engineer N. Spanos of ADK SA
 
 
The project has been completed, used in Athens 2004 Games, and in operation.
